The first I knew it was today, was at 2am when I woke up feeling very hot. The air con had clearly stopped working, I got up to investigate, yup. It's not working. My cunning plan for evading hunger and heat is trying to sleep through it. I went back to sleep, spent 2 hours dreaming about the fact it was hot and that there was another air con unit in the room that we hadn't seen whilst we tried to fix that one, before at 4am, I woke up and I was really really hot, and everyone else was awake, and hot, too. Some one went off to reception to tell them, we considered going to sleep in the tv room which has it's own aircon, but we got it fixed when we worked out a fuse had gone. Their concept of fixing a fuse is a bit different to ours, but all we wanted was for it to be fixed, so we could go back to sleep.
Right, finally some sightseeing in Bangkok as it is accessible, not covered in water, and public transport is operating

First up, the Grand Palace, that has a very grand lot of temples, mostly covered in gold, all very pretty. I was not appropriately dressed in my longer than knee length shorts however, despite several people being allowed through with skirts much shorter than the length of my shorts, they told me my shorts were inpolite (not sure who's looking really?) so me and my rude shorts had to be covered in a fetching sarong. Quite good I suppose as there were lots of signs about pickpockets but even I couldn't get into my shorts pockets once covered up. It was a nice shade of blue with a bit of gold at the bottom, and complimented my t shirt nicely I felt. So, once I was politly dressed, me, Arial and Danielle, some lovely girls I met in the dorm, went in to look around.

It really is a grand palace, glittering in the sun, full of granduour, an emerald buddha you're not supposed to take pictures of... i took that as advisory, as a small challenge.

After that, Arial and I went to Wat Pho to see a huuuuuge gold reclining buddha. My first faux pas was looking for the toilets and going into the mens. I didn't realise till I left and Arial said some guy had told her I was in the wrong one. It wasn't very obvious, apart from the urinals, which I thought was a bit odd in a ladies, but then maybe it was a mixed toilet...no, I was in the mens!

We went round the big buddha with its mother of pearl feet and heard clinking. They were selling a pot of pennies for you to put in about 40 other pots, I asked the lady selling them what it was for, she replied 'for good luck' I jested "is it good luck!?" her colleague just said "no"...I had to giggle. We didn't buy the small pot of pennies.

After a cup of tea and good chat we headed back to the hostel. Technically I had nowhere to stay tonight because the Hua Lamphong was full, however, Danielle had been encouraging me to just sleep in the tv room as plenty of early arrivals did so. So I settled in for the night watching tv with the others. At midnight, I got chucked out. I walked about a bit lost then called the Etz where my bag was, they were open, so I got a taxi there and crashed for the night in a dorm, empty except for me. Their other rooms had been taken up by flood victims which was quite sweet.

best: going out with new chums
worst: getting thrown out at midnight
Beautiful: sparkly shiny gold shiny things in all the rtemples
