Where I stayed
We arrived at the bus station unscathed, apart from knee which a man with an overly wide load on a bicycle hit me with which made my eyes water slightly. The bus station wasn't very well organised, there's no ticket office just a bunch of small shops. I'm on quite possibly the scabbiest bus I've ever been on. Ok, it's quite clean, but I could be on an ancient submarine with all the rusty metalwork, and that's just on the inside. The seats are worn, theres no air conditioning and I have no knee room, again. The private 'we'll pick you up door to door service' was full for the whole of today which is why I'm sitting on a scabby public bus! This bus does apparently go via Puncak Pass however which is meant to be stunning views, it better had be, it's the reason I'm not taking the luxurious train.
The bus edged slowly out of its nest amongst many other buses with a guy at the door shouting encouragement for people to get on. Even as we got on the main road he continued shouting to all and sundry, rather like they did on the angkot yesterday. I'm rather of the opinion that people look for services when they want them, they don't come to you, which is why people following me asking if I want bananas, massages, bracelets and the like are wasted on me, although one can be tempted to change their mind and decide they do actually fancy a banana. I can't however imagine anyone hearing the man standing at the open door of the bus and thinking "I could just fancy going to Bogor today", surely if they wanted a bus they'd go to the bus station or there would be a few designated stops on the way!
17:02 Two and a half hours and I'm only in cianjur.
17:36 Finally I think I'm on Puncak pass, but the sun has disappeared behind the volcano so I should really have left a lot earlier. I've failed to get any decent photos because there the roads are entirely lined with buildings, so between the buildings I snatch views of layered rice terraces and hills and palm trees. It's a lot like Bali in many ways, so we'll just have to visualise that I guess.
18:36 This absolutely sucks. I can there would be an amazing view beacaue I'm up the side of a steep hill and can see lights in the valley below. But. It's DARK! It's nearly 7, I've been on the bus for 4 hours, thankfully haven't needed the toilet because they haven't stopped for that at all, and I'm in puncak, enjoying the pass in the dark. Or not enjoying it at all in fact. I thought it would take 3 hours to do the whole journey. Moral- don't go anywhere on a bus if you can take the train instead. I'm cooler, it's a lot cooler, but my knees are squashed and I'm tired and bored. Deep joy! When am I going to get there?
18:42 Are we there yet? No, we're still driving uphill at 2mph.
18:47 Even the lonely planet writes that it takes 3 hours!!! Oh come on! It's a shame because Puncak looks quite nice actually, all being on a hill and everything.
19:09 I could have walked to Bogor quicker than this. The traffic here is SO AWFUL!!! We've one about 2 miles since my last entry. I'm hungry now and tired. Why oh why did I think this would be good.
23:00 I finally arrived at 8, they told me it was the bus station and that was where I was to meet Tami, in the KFC next to it, so I asked where it was and someone pointed down the road then put me on a bus and we drove for ages! Clearly this wasn't the bus station.
I arrived and my phone rang, Tami had got there before me.
We got some food and sat down an had a great chat for 2 hours before going to her house. Relief as I have arrived and met a lovely lovely person in Tami, I'm going to like getting to know her :)
Best: Arrival at Tami's house
Worst: HOW LONG on a bus and ruining my journey
Beautiful:....Bah....missed it...it was dark
