Where I stayed
Suka Beach Inn
Once at Lombok - about 20 men boarded the boat on one side thus tipping the boat way over to one side making it impossible to stand up, and in the chaos started heading for peoples bags. One guy grabbed mine and was up and off the boat before I could say anything. Once the chaos had lessened enough to stand up and get off there were plenty more men shouting, pointing and grabbing, all like they did in Cambodia when the tourist bus arrived, so I got off the boat and shouted to the man holding my bag, all whilst other guys were yelling "ticket!" and "where you go?" all at the same time. I got my bag back and he wanted me to pay him 10,000 which is almost £1 for the privilege of having grabbed my bag, without even asking! I said no way, and told him that he grabbed my bag without asking and left, and now was asking a ridiculous price for doing something i was perfectly capable of doing myself which made me even more cross
The next scam is that the bus can't come to the dock so you have to walk 300m to the carpark, or you take an overpriced, overworked horse and cart. Not likely, this trip has cost me £18 and on a £22 a day budget, that doesn't leave me with much money to do anything!
09:34 Lombok is very beautiful from the short bit of coast I've seen, thousands of palm trees, no hotels, the coral looks much more alive, and there are incredible hillside views from the Coastal road.
10:33 In lomboks capital - mattaram, they still use horse and cart alongside the cars, bikes, buses and trucks. I didn't expect to see the poor horses alongside all this petrol fuming vehicles.
15:18 Left from dock at 12 and arrived at 3.30, nice crossing, smooth, no pain!
Leaving the dock was more people shouting and following us but it's nice to be back in Bali actually.
We sat in the perama office for an hour, waiting for our bus to kuta and finally left at 4.30. It has taken most of the day to get where we want to be, but it's nice to have David for company.
17:30 We started heading inland and when I spoke to the bus driver I found out that we are going to ubud before kuta, not that this is on the way from padang bai to kuta at all, but a total diversion. The bus driver said we'd get to kuta at 7.30, I told him we left Gili T at 7.30 this morning and the distance we have covered isn't actually all that far!
So, warning: don't use perama to travel between Gili T and Kuta because you'll spend 12 hours doing it
21:10 Hmmm stuffed myself with my visa, at a travel agent they charge £51 for an extension but said it's £22 if I take myself. The entry visa was only £15 to start with, and I only need a 6 day extension and am going to end up paying loads I think :(
