It has been rather cloudy the last few days which is making the landscape look poor still, and as we drover further and further up onto the crater, it got noticeably colder and the landscape more and more murky. By the time we hit the top edge that surrounds the crater, the clouds were pouring over the top and into it, however inside the crater it was a glorious sunny day, much to my surprise.
We descended into the crater, into the sun, and headed down the steep slope towards the huge blue lake. The land either side was brown grass littered with black volcanic rock with a huge volcano to the left and more hills to the right, and it looked for all the world like Switzerland, or maybe even the lake district
After an hour or so looking out at the Lake and hills whilst chatting we returned up the steep slope, and considered having lunch on the crater edge, until we saw how cloudy it was, so we went back over towards ubud and into the murky weather once again! We had lunch at a very cheap little hole in the wall, where my chicken satay was mouth burningly spicy in the way that the spice just builds and builds on you the more you eat! I survived and we went to Nami's house for coffee and more talking. We ended up talking for a few hours above her parents painting shop, until I returned to Ubud.
That evening I went to a fairly nice restaurant for some dinner as I had a 10% off (which as they charge 10% tax and then 5% service charge on top of the prices you see, just made the price as advertised!) and enjoyed some Nasi Goreng (fried rice) with a couple of chicken satay skewers and prawn crackers. I followed this up with banana and cinammon spring rolls topped with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, and THEN I went to a Balinese dance called a Kecack Dance where 50 or so men came out and sang whilst some dancers re-enacted a Hindu story. I really enjoyed it all actually.
Best: having a mate for the day!
Worst: miserable weather on the Ubud side!
Beautiful: the wonderful Lake views in the Crater of Kintamani
