Where I stayed
12:38 It rained all morning, very heavily, finally it subsided a bit and me and Angela got a tuktuk to the bus station a few km away then a public bus to the Buddha Park another 24km away. See copious number of pictures of various Buddhas.
It rained more, I tried fried banana at the park which was nice.
Got back, bumps into Jane and Paul and all decided to go for a massage. Me and Angela had a Lao massage for an hour which was much needed and only £2.60. Can you believe it! Jane had a bodyscrub and looked a slightly different colour at the end- her feet were stained yellow, and Paul had an oil massage. We were all very happy! We returned to our rooms for an hour or so until we met for dinner at 7. We'd decided that pizza was what we fancied and if we couldn't get it here we couldn't get it anywhere else. Found a place called Tex Mex along the front which we found quite entertaining in that there was several quite pissed older guys sitting with very pretty slim locals. There was also a guy sitting on his own, again, drunk, who was jamming away to himself with the different western music, anything from elvis to the verve, pretend playing a piano, guitar and drums, and occasionally bursting into song very loudly at the occasional lyric, but never quite on time with the song, I was facing him and was hugely entertained.
After dinner we hugged goodbye to Jane and Paul as their plan was to leave on the afternoon bus to to vang vieng tomorrow, whereas ours was to cycle and go the day after.
Me and Angela went onto the riverside markets again as I'm after a pair of local shorts- the sort that look like you've lost about 20 stone when you hold them up to yourself but the idea is you sort of fold them over and tie them up. They're really loose and cool and have a massive crotch area that you could do the splits in (not that I can, or will be trying!). Her starting price was 60000, and after some negotiating we were aiming for 30000 each. She said no, the lowest she would offer was 40000 so we moved on up the Market. We found nothing else and I decided that I'd pay that for them anyway. We returned and offered 2 for 70000-35000 each, and she said yes. So now I have some new baggy shorts!
On getting back to the hotel I thought id try and call my family as I haven't in ages. I was dubious as the speeds here are about half a meg and I didn't think skype would cope, it often doesn't. I tried my sisters house. Nothing, I knew everyone was in London so called my mums mobile. She picked up and I heard her saying it was from an unknown number, then hello. I started saying hello, then yelling hello then she put the phone down. I tried again and this time I got through, brilliant. As it happened the whole family was in the car so I was able to speak to them all and have a great conversation despite the 5sec delay which can often cause problems when people try and talk over each other, but we didn't. It did cost a lot more than calling a landline too! Normally I can talk for about 1p per min. This was more like 10p per min, so I'll have to top up my account again soon.
Bed time after that, still a bit tired.
Best: talking to the family
Worst: that it rained ALL day
Beautiful: the Buddha statues in Buddha park
