11:47 I made the decision half an hour ago..., I moved hotel- from a $7 per night "grand view hotel" (where there is no longer a grand view at all of the lake as it has been drained), with dirty walls, dirty sheets, no toilet paper, no hot water, bars on the window and a window that doesn't lock, tiny tv, aircon with no adjusting it, miles from the main area and where I'm not the only person according to trip advisor where something has been stolen.
So for $10 I'm right in the centre of all the good stuff in town, nice room, same size but clean sheets, towels, toilet roll! nice bathroom, big tv, adjustable aircon, even pou pori!
I'm very pleased with my decision :)
15:06 After I'd settled in at the hotel I went to the Russian markets where I bought a couple of watches and a rain cover for my rucksack as I keep getting caught in rain. There are also millions of copied DVDs, music, software and games, so tempting to return with a bag full!
Next stop was the royal palace which reopens at 2 where I had a gentle wander around the ornate golden palaces. Having seen the palaces, churches and temples of Russia, china, japan, Vietnam and here, it makes me wonder if there is anything so colourful or beautiful in the UK. Churches can have some interesting stained glass windows, but really, the buildings are always pretty drab and uncolourful, even the palaces. Maybe I've been away too long bit is there anywhere that compares to this? Please let me know! I'll make sure I visit when I return!
22:00 At 6pm I heard from Kim, the guy I met in Hong Kong several months ago, and went to meet him. We had dinner at FCC then went to meet Linda who has just moved here herself. She ate, we watched and I had an elephant shaped pot of tea.

best: relief of a new hotel

worst:feeling like i had to move

beautiful: the palace
