09:30 The nightbus wasn't comfy and I had very little sleep, although I know i must have been asleep because i do remember having a dream about being on the nightbus but it was a hairy ride. Probably because of the amount of braking and swerving the actual bus did.

I woke briefly at around 6 and looked out the window and had the most incredible view of the sun rising over a big delta of water, i tried to quickly get my camera but wasn't quick enough for the best view. I just remember being stunned by it though.
19:00 After getting off the bus and getting a Moto to my hostel I had a free breakfast where they had banana jam. Mum will know I was hoping for strawberry or raspberry jam, i didn't have the banana jam, just marg on my baguette. I thought about what to do for the day and a city or boat tour seemed like a good option. As I left the hostel there were some bikers across the road and I got chatting to one called Tri who showed me his Book full of positive comments from so many people. I decided to try him out for the day and we took a city tour where I got to see his driving skills which I have to say were very good as we rode over gravel and sand and had to avoid any number of drivers.

We went out to several kings tombs and mausoleums, a pagoda where monks live right by the river, the citadel and and he took me to a place where I had a fantastic lunch for 80p!

He showed me a route that involves going up to the DMZ and staying in a place near an American air force base, then taking the Ho Chi Minh trail through the hills to Hoi An. After Hoi An we will go back on the trail through the central highlands and after a 10 day tour altogether I'll arrive in Nha Trang. For 33 per day this is a bit more than my budget of 25 per day but sounds FAR more interesting than just going from here to Nha Trang by night bus. After all, I'm here to see and do things, not just to be here. The 33 covers hotels, breakfast, and his bike hire/tour skills. A very good deal in fact. The official easy riders charge $65 per day and this is only $55. It would cost me $30 just to hire a bike if I wanted to go anywhere. AND Tri is going to let me drive his Honda Master 125cc bike too, so we'll share the driving which sounds perfect really. I will have to do some more budget conscious things after this trip, but considering I was thinking of buying a bike way up in Hanoi and was sort of gently steered away from the idea in favour of finding a trip instead, this is going to be a cracker I hope!

Tomorrow we will go somewhere quiet and I'm going to practice my motorbike riding skills again, after all, I have a full licence at home. I insisted on having a decent helmet as well. After looking at some of the completely inadequate helmets here (which I don't know why they even bother to manufacture nevermind wear- my hockey goalie helmet had more strength to it than the cap things they have here). So I have a decent helmet. We came back and had a beer and then back to the hostel to check in my room, have a shower and eat. I met a girl in my room who was travelling alone but going north and we went for dinner and a chat. When we got back the hostel it was a busy bar full of people.

I tried to stay up and catch up my blog, but I was so tired I went to bed and fell asleep about 8pm!

Best: Sightseeing

Worst: you've probably realised sleep is important to me, so not having any makes me grumpy

Beautiful: there were so many, the amazing temples made from pottery, the Perfume River, the rice fields. All incredible, but the highlight was the picture I didn't get and that was sunrise over the water

I just remember being very very soggy in Hue and a bit cold - looks very different to our experience! Hope you have fun with Tri, and that he teaches you how to haggle with force! Or at least learn the true cost of commodities! Sounds like you keep getting pounced on and ripped off? Love you lots x
