11:19 I didn't sleep brilliantly last night, the cockerels starting crowing around 3am and continued until about 5am then the outside noise began, hammering, sawing, sweeping, rattling around. It was all going on. I managed to sleep until 8 and came down for breakfast. We were due to climb the 1000 step hill to go to a cave, it's more than that apparently and I felt much too tired to do it so decided to stay in the village. Me and another girl called Lisa went for a walk round the village and saw the locals and what they were weaving. I bought myself a little pale blue and white cloth bracelet to add to my collection. Mostly they are selling pashmina type scarves, shirts, bags, kids clothes and some wooden things too.
It is a grey day, but still hot and humid enough to be sweating away again. There is a party going on in the village as the government has given them an award of some sort so everyone is out, old women in traditional dress chewing the red spit stuff and knocking bamboo together in a sort of dance.

14:12 Having talked prices with some of the guys I've stayed with this morning, I realise I've paid a bit more on somethings than I should have. The massage the other day was pretty pricey so I'm going to try and find a cheaper one for sure and be more savvy with my spending.

16:11 We left Mai Chau and it's a clear sunny day, so those views I missed yesterday when we were in thick fog were quite a surprise as i could see for miles into the distance- hills and valleys green with with trees and rice fields. It really is an incredible view.

It was a 4 hour trip back to Hanoi and we arrived after dark. I was pleased to get into some air conditioning and a soft bed. I watched a film whilst uploading my photos from my camera to my computer and finally went to bed quite early as it would be another early start.

Best: some fantastic views in the drive back

Worst: the long long drive back

Beautiful: the views from high in the hills
