Where I stayed
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, certainly not. I'm simply stating fact, and frustration more than anything. Despite my aches and pains, I wouldn't rather be anywhere else, you know, I wouldn't rather be in England in my flat. I am here, in Japan, and it's just something I will get on with, and I will get better but clearly I have to rest.
So, I barely slept last night for the pain in my throat. I have at least one golf ball in my throat making swallowing very painful and almost impossible. I would have slept more this morning but everyone else got up and so it was hard
So I got up and had a shower, cleaned my face as my nose, despite being blocked, is still runny so I'm still getting a bit of a crusty face in the morning...mmmm nice information for the readers today hey. Had some breakfast and tea and asked reception about how I'd go about seeing a doctor. They thought it expensive and that I should call insurance company. So I dug out my insurance and gave them a call. I have a £100 excess on my policy, so I decided that rather than rush out to the doctor I'd totally rest today and see how I feel tomorrow, whilst keeping warm and drinking lots of nice warm tea and coffee and taking ibrofun, and watching DVDs on the hostel TV all day. So...I've had the one day trip in Kyoto, and there is more to see, but not today. I must decide tomorrow if I'm going to go to Hiroshima or not. I'd like to obviously, but will have to see.
I had a really lovely email from my best friend Helena this morning, it was really great to wake up to and hear some news about the family, it seems my godson Jack has been headbutting a piano and getting battlescars, poor lad! He's fine though, I guess boys will be boys! They'll be so much bigger and more able to do things when I next see them (Jack is 4 and Josh just turned 2 the day before I left)
I've had some fantastic emails and messages from everyone still, and I want you to know that I love to read them and it cheers me up everytime, even though I haven't had the chance to reply to everything because I'm so busy! So excuse the tardyness in my replies, I will do my best to reply when I get the chance, and really I have nothing much more to say than what I write here but I just thought I'd let you know that every email or comment is much appreciated so i will keep thanking you all.
So, due to my absolutely pathetic excuse for an immune system, my reports today will be very dull and held entirely from the lounge of the hostel. I'm sitting here with my winter coat and thick socks on. I've had bacon and egg on toast. Mum would always bring me an egg on toast if I was ill at home. I love that, I have several memories of not being well, and dozing in our old house and mum coming in to wake me with a little plate of egg on toast. Thanks mum :) so egg on toast is now quite comforting because I remember that (so mum, even though you're not with me, and I made it myself, I feel better because I imagine you brought it in).
I have a cup of coffee and my computer to upload photos to my computer back home via the power of LogMeIn (brilliant bit of technology where I can access my home computer anywhere in the worldhttps://www.zumodrive.com/referrals/fb/17QQNmI1M2
So, cup of coffee, DVD's and computer, I'm quite content as I'm sure you can imagine, as it takes very little to keep me occupied. I just watched a good film, and now, having chosen some dvds that I haven't seen I've put on a film called "The Marine" it's appears to be about an american marine. I can tell already, 5 mins in that it's going to be one of those absolutely dreadful films with a poor storyline, awful soundtrack, poor acting and laughable effects. Oh yes here we go, massive explosions and an aftermath with his commander... he disobeyed an order and has been discharged, and all he had to say was "but sir... I'm a marine" ....what next then? babysitter or bank robber....I will find out. He has the body of a bodybuilder so I'm sure that will be put to use. Look now, I have something to write about.
Oh, I've uploaded some videos to YouTube of some various things - panoramic views, to snowmobiling to catching a snowball in my mouth...if you look here at my profile, http://www.youtube.com/user/zedbee79 you can see some of the videos I uploaded
Quick update on the film....there we go...baddies lives cross the path of Marine and wife on daytrip....wife gets kidnapped....Marine pursues to take revenge... cue high speed chase and lots of shooting, a police car so riddled full of bullets even a lada wouldn't cope never mind this sporty looking police car. Last time I saw some police cars they were driving smartcars, or pandas at one stage. This looks like a doge viper or something. Oh such wooden acting. Gotta love it. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419946/)
I'd tell you what happened but I lost interest and all I can say is he beat the bad guys and got his wife back, then end.
It's 5pm, am I feeling better? marginally. I've uploaded a load of videos to You Tube, as I said, and just relaxed. I have been thinking about my predicament of not having enough time to see as much of Japan as I wanted, and it turns out that a very real job that I could do, and not need any other qualifications for, would be teaching English. It seems to pay reasonably well, and as long as it's enough to have somewhere to sleep and enough to eat and see things, then maybe after my travels to Asia I could come back for a month or two and teach English and have more of a chance to see the place
I think tonight I'm going to try and get out to have sushi with a guy that knows a place. Some fresh fish should def be a good thing to eat.
The pictures I've left you today, are of some common items you might well recognise, in their Japanese form. Also a pic from last night in the Japanese restaurant.
