07:57 Croissants and coffee on the train today. My toilet experience was not great- a squat toilet with no toilet roll. Fortunately I was prepared on one front and there was a handle to hang onto. interesting choice in facilities.

Have I mentioned hacking up, spitting and queue jumping are far too common here, so although I've joined the queue jumping culture I'm not about to join the spitting.
11:50 Arriving in shanghai it was instantly a lot warmer. Time to leave the jacket in the bag now I think. Mind you, our monastery visit might be a lot cooler up in the mountains. Shanghai is clearly a cosmopolitan city, lots of high rise buildings and apartment blocks. Lots of western shops and big brands.
I've taken a video clip of driving through it which I'll to youtube when i can access it again. So many of the buildings have washing hanging out, there are a lot of bikes and scooters, moreso than Beijing.
15:04 One thing you can say about shanghai, it's big and tall.
It must be about 20 deg today. It's a perfect temperature. We've come to the shanghai museum. Opposite is a fountain and lovely gardens with green grass and flowers and sitting on the warm stone wall, there is classical music playing and the whoosh of the fountain. No traffic noise, just calming sounds. I really just could sit on this wall and be still for a while, but theres a museum to see.

It's pretty interesting the stuff in here. They have Ancient bronzes from up to 17 centuries BC!! They are beautifully decorated and not in any way basic. It's very surprising to see such detail. There are also stone carvings, paintings, old money, clothes, jade, pottery and some other things.
18:14 I'm really tired now, and grumpy with it. The amount of walking I've done warrants a day off as apart from my calves, my right knee is aching, and I feel I may need a knee support.
With the amount of money I've spent over the last 39 days it averages at 25 per day, and not much of that has been accommodation, just a couple of weeks in japan, so I'm not quite sure how i managed that, mind you I still have some in my purse so the average is still creeping down. Japan was def expensive and of course I spent around 100 just on the doctor and meds. I havent particularly had a budget here, but eating and travelling in china is very cheap. When I get to south east Asia my budget is 25 per day but including accomodation. Tomorrow i must go to the bank.
20:25 Came to an acrobat show -150Y which is about 15. It was very similar to the one in Beijing, but there were a few extra bits. They had the hat jugglers, motorbike ball, super strong contortionists whose backs bend into unnatural shapes.
22:05 We went to an italian restaurant for dinner tonight for a little change. So I had Pizza for dinner, bacon and pineapple. It was very nice and loaded with plenty of topping and was good to have a change and some cheese. One of the girls also got a drink called chocolate tea, we were curious and so had a taste of this chocolate tea. Try it at home...Make hot chocolate with milk rather than water, then put a tea bag in- there you go, hot chocolate tea, or milk tea with chocolate flavour! It was different but quite nice. My phone picked up enough wifi for me to get some emails in, but getting wifi or Internet at all has been quite tricky here.
22:26 As we walked back from the restaurant and show, weirdly I saw a mcdonalds delivery bike! A note on McDs differences. The food tastes the same of course, they don't have apple pies though, instead you can have pineapple pie or taro pie which is purple. They also don't have BBQ sauce and we also noted that they do Oreo McFlurry. I'm not sure if that is flavour of the month globally but as they only have snickers and occasionally malteasers, I think offering a crunchie or creme egg McFlurry might be a bit lost on them.

Best thing- going to bed because im so tired and worn out and Im gradually accumulating more aches

Worst thing - train toilets. Also the most disgusting thing today

Most beautiful- some of the items I saw in the museum

New one... Biggest impression of the day - just how many bikes and scooters there are and how cosmo shanghai is.
