World Cup Day 1 Brazil vs Croatia

We had a lazy morning and headed to the pub about 2.5hrs before the game started and it was already pretty full. By kick off the place was absolutely rammed full of Brazil fans. They were singing, cheering, using numerous air-horns and were in really good spirits. We let another 6 English fans join us on our table so we had a good group watching the game. There was deathly silence when Brazil scored an own goal and every time a Brazil player missed the screams sounded like a One Direction concert. When they did score the place erupted, especially after the penalty! Which by the way was never a penalty. I felt Croatia were really unlucky not to get a draw but in the context of our trip you always want the hosts to do well. We spent the rest of the night getting drunk with the England fans and chatting to happy locals. It's really hard to chat to the locals unless they speak English as Portuguese is really different to Spanish. The locals understand Spanish if you speak really slowly but they can’t speak back in Spanish. We’re getting by and the atmosphere is awesome. Tomorrow we move out of the nice hotel we are in into a hostel where we will be sharing with 4 others in a dorm.
