...I'm single.
Went to Jeongeup with Tim and Jessica. We took the train which was a pretty cool experience...I think after another round on the train with other people, I will be ok to do it on my own :P
However, I have come to realize that if I want a Korean boyfriend, I will have to stop walking around with my male friends, haha. So the weekend before White Day, I ran into one of my students and she asked if my friend Nick was my valentine. Now, I sat next to Tim on the train and Jessica ended up sitting next to a Korean that is in University (male). He asked Jessica if Tim and I were in love. She laughed and told him no, we were friends. Then Tim's friend thought we were in a relationship as well as Stella (one of the EPIK staff from orientation). I honestly don't know why they thought that, but apparently Tim uses a soft voice when he talks to me haha. I just have a special place as a friend I guess lol. But we did have some good news yesterday. Tim has been crushing mad hard on one of the EPIK staff members, Vicky, and we found out that she has an interest in him as well. He was so happy that he ended up doing a hop skip, was blushing and full of smiles. He tried covering it up saying she doesn't like him and making up excuses, was so cute/funny.
Jessica took the 840pm train to Jochiwon, where we had about an hour and a half layover. We finally got home around 2am.

I just arrived to Gwangmyeong last week, teaching elementary to 5th and 6th graders and I'm really enjoying your blog!

Fair play to you for learning Korean! I think I'm going to have to get serious with that too. :) A good word I learnt today: machitda - delicious! (comes in handy over lunch).

Thank you for the word! People keep telling me, but I need it written down to learn it. Have you started to teach yet? What would you like to see in my blog that could help you? And thank you! When I find him, there will be a whole blog dedicated to him, so just a heads up :P
Also, did you go through EPIK?

I tell ye, between the Don Win's and Daniel Henney's out there... we're gonners!

How are you finding classroom management? Today was my first day of proper lessons and while behaviour was 'okay' it definitely has a way to go. When I was observing last Thursday there was a lot of 'acting the maggot' going on: kids play fighting, lots of talking...? I'm interested to see if you're experiencing the same! :)

I'm through GEPIK and I am so handy to Seoul it is ridiculous. Do you like your area?

I fully intend to get my blog up and running, just as soon as I get the internet sorted!

Oh - also, how are you finding working together with the textbook vs your TEFL/TESOL training?

I know right? I'm more into the 'baby' faces personally, so like Lee Jinki (Onew) from SHINee. But yea, we are gonners. Classroom management. I'm thankful I have my co-teachers and homeroom teachers. I'm very laid back and not good at punishments. Each teacher has their own method of classroom management. My head co-teacher, Hui Jeong, has a 3-step system:

1. Close your eyes for 5 minutes (Depending on how bad the students are being, she will scold them).
2. Stand in the back of the room facing the teacher for 5 minutes.
3. Stand in the hall for 5 minutes (We haven't had to use this one yet).
My other co-teacher, Hanna, I don't think we've run into problems yet.
As for getting their attention, they have several methods. One is where the teacher claps twice, says "Look at me look at me" and the students say "Look look look at you!" and point at the teacher. Another is to clap twice saying stop everyone, then the students clap 5 times and put their hands on their head. Another is the teacher says"Be" and the students reply "Quiet!". Or "Listen" "Carefully!"
The kids tend to be riled up when class starts, and sometimes during class, but mostly quiet down within 5 minutes.
I love it here! Its a nice small city, and everything is within walking distance from where I live.
I look forward to reading your blogs! And as to the textbooks vs TEFL/TESOL training...the textbooks make it somewhat impersonal but they are trying to make the activities geared more towards the students. There is a set level, which makes it boring for those that are of a higher level...and you can tell which students are bored from it being too easy to those that don't want to bother. I'm hoping the ones that find it too easy come up to me and ask for something harder or more challenging.

Aye. I think I'm going to have to get creative with the discipline thing in my class. I will don my thinking cap and see how it goes!

Thanks also for the run-down on your class. We have the 'look look look at you' and pretty heavy use of a brass bell... wowzers :)

Haha, yea. And there is a teacher at my school...ah, you'll read about him in my future blogs ^^
Ah, the brass bell...those things sure are sturdy. Let me know if you keep having problems and I'll try to help.

It's just a point of frustration, eh? I'll be sure to keep in touch for any gold nuggets you come across. I'm thinking learning my kids names will be a massive boon... here goes!

Good luck with remembering your kids many do you have? ^^ I have 572...may take me awhile, plus the names are not something we are used to.

572 - holy heels... that's a lot.

I have 300+... no accurate figures as of yet. I taught in Malawi for 7 months and learning names wasn't too bad because they're language has been romanised. Korean... lol... yeap, different thing entirely. Tally ho!
