Where I stayed
I stopped in Ukiah and had some juggling fun with Lisa's kindergarten class. Watching her deal with all those 5 year olds really put my kids in perspective. I wish I had a pretty, patient, singing K teacher. I plan on much more patience when I get home.
We went to the Ukiah Brewing Co. for dinner. Ukiah is a place filled with future and aging hippies thrown in with the lawyers and bail bondsmen that go along with being the county seat. I sat at Schat's bakery and atched all manner of people rolling through
Lisa and Allen live in a valley outside of the metropolis of Hopland, CA on land Allen's dad bought in the 1920's. It is on a dead end road that goes all the way up the mountain that has maybe 7 places on it, a few of them hunting camps. They have a propane refrigerator and hot water heater, no electricity, and a composting toilet. Not the fancy electric kind. The 5 gallon bucket that you cover your crap with sawdust and wood chips and compost it in their many vegetable and flower beds. They haven't had rain since June and sleep outside until Sept. It is lovely and serene and cleansing and they are some fantastic folks! They set me up with my very comfy van-bed and covers and great travel advice and were fantastic.
Tomorrow I head for San Francisco and home. Then I'll do a retrospective of my trip with new pics and mileage estimate.
