Pamukkale is awesome!!! Once we arrived we had lunch - Turkish Pancakes - soooooo good!!!! Pamukkale means calcified falls and is called that because the water in the area is heavy in Calcium bicarbonate which leaves a thick residue and covers the mountain side making it look like snow. In some of the spots pools of water have formed and you can sit in the water. We had to walk to the top of the mountain in bare feet which was really hard cos it was rocky and slippery! At the top of the mountain are the remains of an ancient city called Hierapolis. The ruins include a huge theatre (gladiator stadium) which we had to climb to the top of then down into the bottom and then back to the top again - very hot work!!! We also saw a colonnaded street, latrines, and a vast necropolis containing tombs and sarcophagi - or sack-ar-far-gus as our tour leader calls them. The site was huge and took us most of the day to explore. We then went to the Pamukkale Termal Baths where we had a swim amongst sunken roman ruins which was very cool. It was a really good couple of days. After Pamukkale we headed towards Fetihye where we boarded our Gulet which is very nice and can't wait to take a dip in the water. Will write more when back on land.
