'Twas the day after New Year's, when all through the house not a creature was stirring not even a mouse......
Most new years days I've always had to get up by noon, hung over or not, to have lunch with my family. This year, I am glad to say, we were able to stay in bed for the entire day, wrapped up in our snuggly duvet. Everyone in the house was either sleeping or resting from the wild dancing the night before. Never had I heard such deathly peace and quiet.
Caz, Ryan, Ed and I had gone to Fabric to spend New Years Eve. We got there at around 11 pm, just in time to get a good spot next to the laser clock, that was already counting down the minutes and seconds to midnight. As the moments passed, the rooms began to get more and more crowded. People getting wild with anticipation, dancing closer, pounding harder, sweating, panting, roaring.
The clock hit midnight and the trembling crescendo exploded into a crazed frenzy of hands and arms and kisses and balloons, lights and explosions, smoke, bell chimes, silver stars, and people intensely raging through the first few minutes of 2007.
When the crowd subdued, Bookashade came onstage for yet another uprise of hands and lights. The ground thumped hard with deep bass, which made your spine curdle and your head blow.
Ed and I lost Caz and Ryan in the human current, and as much as we looked, they were lost in the engulfing crowd, so we eventually gave up hoping to find them later during the night.
We danced till our thighs begged for mercy, screamed till our throats were scraped dry, and smiled so our cheeks were cramped. We had met many people from all over the world who had come to the famous club for a blast off into the new year. Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, and American all united under one timezone and one DJ.
