This was a day that I had been looking forward to. But when it finally arrived I grew nostalgic and melancholic, as it usually occurs when a period is marked by an end. It was one of those days I expected to take long in arriving, but it got to my present reality fairly quickly, giving me no time to actually absorb what it meant. The arrival of this day, for Ed and I, marked the end of our purpose in Porto Petro, and in Mallorca....and migration time was finally here.

The Cave's closing party, held on a Saturday night, wasn't too promoted or publicized, yet by 2 am, it was so crowded I secretly begged people would start leaving. But they didn't; they stayed for more. More people continued arriving throughout the night while Ed and I struggled to keep the bar afloat and make sure everyone was served quickly. For the next 9 hours, Ed and I rushed about pouring drinks, hardly aware of what was going on around us. All we had as an indicator were people's radiant faces.

While I served the same drinks to the regulars who had come to the Cave since the beginning, I poured new ones to unfamiliar faces, who seemed quite content with their choice of venue for this Saturday night. I heard my name being yelled out a thousand times, asking either for a drink, a kiss, or a picture. And it was then I realized how much I was going to miss being behind that bar every night, chatting away with the regulars, meeting new people who came for the first time, occasionally stepping away from my post to have a quick dance with the crowd in the dance floor, taking pictures, calling for body shots, and recording every priceless moment at the Cave. But most of all I was going to miss the people who were there day after day: Pierre, Oli, Malik, Bruno, Pablo, Javi, Emi, Tony, Walter, Monica, Merche, Xisca, Rosella, Stephie, Montaña, Paula, Erea, Noe, Jolline, Nacho, Natalia, Stefan, Tricky, Mark, Manu, etc.

So as the Cave's last party came to an end circa 6:30 am, the music stopped and Mark stepped up into the Dj both to cheer the people on, bidding everyone to return next year for more happy times. Hopefully we will all meet in 2007, starting May, to welcome a new summer season. Personally, I can't wait.
