Just when we thought things couldn't get more tedious around here, Hector came along. Native to Barcelona, he came for a couple of weeks to visit a friend of his, Monica, who's working at the Blau Hotel. I'm still unsure how things happened, but we saw him at the Cave with Monica, and talked a few times before exchanging numbers and arranging a night out in celebration of Ed's first overseas birthday.  Big number 27 (he finally cuaght up with me)

So we met at our place and the four of us: Emi, Hector, Ed and I sped off to Cala d'Or in the hopes to find an open bar or club. Our first stop was the Upstairs Bar where, opposed to other bars and restaurants, was packed with people and loud music. We sat and talked and got to know Hector over Havanna Club 7 and Coke, Ballantine's and Red Bull, and Shandies. After a while our laughing started getting louder and the quiet groups of people started glaring at us to which Hector, nonchalantly, pointed at the sky and asked everyone to behold he UFO passing by. As he sat back down pleased with the amount of people he had gotten to look up at the night sky, he said that if they really wanted something to look at, they would look at anything. I liked that.

After we got bored, we moved on to the Red Lion. The place was empty except for the bar staff and the DJ and since all we wanted was some decent music to listen to, we went inside. I was glad to realize that I'd previously met the DJ so I asked him if he could play something more upbeat, considering we were the only ones there. We danced all around the bar, chatting with Juan and the other Irish bartender who thought he could charm me by speaking Gaelic. Juan, the manager, treated me to a few shots of Suitcase, Mini-Guinness and Pink Panther, and at the end allowed me to try just one drop of mint Absinthe. I had been bugging him to let me try it since I had heard so much about it, and specially since he told us unbelievable stories about some of his customers and Absinthe. He said that if he gave me an entire shot, I would pass out instantly, so he served just one drop.

One drop was more than enough: It numbed my lips and tongue. I couldn't believe how strong it was. And that was when Juan told me that it had 90% volume of alcohol, a bit more than most ethylic alcohols sold in drug stores. He told us that he's seen the biggest men try no more than one shot and watch them drop like flies. A drink to stay away from.

At 4:30am they started closing up and we asked them if there was anywhere else we could go. They mentioned the Havanna, a Cuban bar where they play Latin music. Since it was the only place open, we asked them to join us and so we were off. At Havanna I was overjoyed to find my handsome German friend, Stephan, off his head, but present nonetheless. We stayed there to watch the Cuban dancers hit the dance floor, and I saw something I never thought I'd see: Ed dancing to the Latin rhythms.

I bounced around the bar talking to people and meeting new ones, but alas, all good things come to an end as they started kicking us out. Why wouldn't they? It was, after all, already morning. To quietly end the evening, Juan invited us up to his place for some breakfast. Hector and Emi where dead tired to they left in the car while Ed and I bounced back to Juan's place.

At around 9am, after talking non stop with Juan, Ed and I called a cab and managed to find our way back home into our warm little bed, where I kissed my baby and murmured the last "happy birthday".
