Things have been busier than usual in Porto Petro. August has brought with it an avalanche of tourists seeking sun and fun. Unfortunately for them, the weather has been unstable lately, bringing dark afternoon clouds and fast winds rendering beach days incomplete. But the nightlife has sparked up and with the Cave at full throttle, the season will be a success.
We've been working nights at the Cave, usually until 5 am. We already have our insatiable regulars who are there from beginning to end, begging for one more tune from Ross or one more beer more the bar. The occasional unconscious drunken body of German or Englishman has to be dragged out and slapped awake for the walk home. Usually people there are friendly and polite, but there are always the rude provocative ones that want to get behind the bar and pour their drinks themselves or in the Dj booth where they pretend to mix the music.
Ed has surprised us all with his newly acquired talents in the bar, pouring drinks faster than anyone. If there's one good thing his job at Varadero left him was the training he got in being an efficient bartender.
Having two jobs is certainly tiring. My body has already gotten used to being sleep-deprived most of the day, but the few hours I have in between jobs helps me catch up on some light sleeping. Today Ed starts his new day job at a restaurant only a block away. He will be serving drinks at the bar there aswell and the extra money will be great. Besides, the place has a reputation for treating their employees with the upmost respect and care, which is a rare thing in these parts. We'll see how true that is.
We walked down to the beach hidden in a small canyon where we sat down in the dark with Ross's iPod speaker enjoying the stars and the solitude. As it was getting late we didn't stay too long since the

03 Lovely Clouds
So all in all we've all been having a great time, meeting people and dancing away. I even got a taste of being the listening ear behind the bar for tortured souls when a guy from the Dominican Republic started telling me his tales of woe over rum and coke. 04 Twilight Watching
Yesterday we were free from the Cave so Bernie, Ross, Ed and I drove to a beach called Cala Pi to the west of the island where the vegetation isn't as arid as it is here. Rather, it's greener and more lush making the twilight scenery all the more appealing, even if the daylight was slowly succumbing to the night. We walked down to the beach hidden in a small canyon where we sat down in the dark with Ross's iPod speaker enjoying the stars and the solitude. drive back was long. We were all tired and needed to rest so we decided to call it a night. The Cave's owner, Trace, would be flying in tomorrow and we still needed to clean the place up from last weekend. This Saturday, Trace will be bringing in a Bora Bora party from Ibiza with Alex Miles to play at the Cave. We still need to make flyers and hand them out to people to make sure the party will not be in vain. At least the regulars will be there.
