Things have finally gotten back on track after a week of ups and downs. The working situation, the family reunion, the lack of free time, and the time apart from each other due to different schedules had taken its toll on our moods. But now we're both back to our friendly, happy selves. We've grown more accustomed to our routines, and now instead of sulking, we make the most of every minute we have together even if it's just for a few hours each day.
Now, we knew nothing of this party, just that it was a rave at the beach. It could have been a bonfire in the sand with a few people dancing around as far as we knew. So we drove the 60 km's north at 2am, expecting the worse. But suddenly we started noticing a very large agglomeration of cars and people are headed in the same direction. We parked the car where we could when we reached the little beach town of Son Serra, and started following the young ravers.
But when my head hit the pillow, I was out cold. Just 3 hours later Ed and I went off to work but I must say, I didn't feel tired at all. I went through the day as if it were any other. After work I stopped by Varadero to see how Ed was doing, and he mentioned something about a German couple who were looking for a room during their stay. He said he thought it'd be cool to house them and I agreed. He told me they would stop by later, giving me enough time to tidy up and clean a little bit before welcoming my German house guests.
Alexander and Sandra rang the doorbell a little sooner than I expected, not giving me enough time to clean as much as I'd liked. Nonetheless they struck me as a charming pair, very quiet and a little timid, but extremely nice and courteous. They were very thankful towards our gesture in accommodating them for free and offered us housing if we ever go up to Germany, which was a plus. Another plus is that they are both vegetarians and they also meditate! We got to talking about budget traveling and Alexander told me about the amazing experiences he'd had in the West Indies when staying with a group of Rastafarians, eating roots and drinking herbs, sleeping in beaches and bathing in the sea. Sandra had a horrible migraine which rendered her practically unconscious so she took off for bed early.
They are to stay only a few days, maybe three nights. They rented a car so they offered to drive us into the city if we needed it and also to cook for us if were hungry. I think they felt they needed to repay us somehow but the sole fact of having them over is rewarding enough. We seem to have many views and thoughts in common so I expect entertaining conversations up ahead during their stay. The fact that we seemed to click right from the beginning was great, and the prospect of gaining two more friendships was even greater.
01.1 Ross
So with that happier outlook last night we decided to head to the other side of the island where there was supposed to be a big beach party...so said the word on the street. Even though we knew we would get little sleep before work the next day, we decided to take a chance and drive down with Victor, Bernie, Ross, and Miguel. Now, we knew nothing of this party, just that it was a rave at the beach. It could have been a bonfire in the sand with a few people dancing around as far as we knew. 07 Laser Show
About 2km's of walking, we got to the beach. We looked down from the sand dune we were standing on, and behold, about 30,000 people were jumping to the beat of a Dj, embellished by green and blue laser shows, fast flashy colored lights and a huge screen showing bizarre clips with the sole purpose of driving you insane. Things were looking up. 03 Group Pic
We made our way through the sand and the people, and picked a spot in the middle, right in front of the stage. We danced until about 6 am when Ed and I begged the guys to leave the party early so we could get some sleep before work. We felt horrible having to interrupt everyone's good time but we had no way to get back into Porto Petro, and no one else there had to work the next day. 10 Freak Show
They agreed and so began our demented journey back to our little side of the island, driving at only 80 km ph, dodging rabbits on the road, watching the sun rise from behind some hills. As tired as I was I didn't really want the car ride to end: I was having such good laughs with the guys in the car. Everyone was such so energetic and happy. It hardly seemed we were coming back from 4 hours of hard dancing after being awake almost 24 hours. But when my head hit the pillow, I was out cold. Just 3 hours later Ed and I went off to work but I must say, I didn't feel tired at all. I went through the day as if it were any other.
