Just four more days till we take off. We are rushing by to get last minute details done and things resolved. This my friends, is the worst part. The stress of it all is sometimes overwhelming. Ed and I are trying to take it as easy as we can.
One thing that I was happy to hear is that the person I recommended to fill my shoes at work was hired...none other than my good friend Ignacio. He started yesterday so I got to sit him down and begin the preliminary training, show him around, introduce him to everyone, we also had lunch with a beer to celebrate.
Today, after an almost 11 hour sleep which I absolutely needed, I woke up and started working on a few questions from TravelBlogger.net Magazine whose friendly editor Ian, wanted to interview me for their monthly magazine on traveling and writing
Once I finished with that Ed and I began the packing ordeal. Sorting out all the stuff Ed was going to take was a tedious job but his mom Patricia, Fina and I all helped him through it. I, on the other hand, had already gone through that process before I moved to Ed's place. After lunch we continued with the process and Patricia offered to help pack the suitcases and backpacks. I'm glad she helped out because she showed her uncanny talent in optimizing space. She managed to fit all our clothes in one suitcase which amazed me. God Bless Patricia.
Another thing that amazed me is that Ed ended up packing almost double the clothes that I had, after he had bragged and boasted during weeks to everyone that he was taking only what he truly needed. I don't think he'll "truly need" 6 pairs of shorts of the same khaki color and 4 swimming trunks.
Fina helped with the last minute mending of the clothes such as shirts with small unstitched holes or pants with open seams. She fixed the fold of a jean skirt I had which was hand cut by me, and obviously in horrible shape. She also shortened my new military pants which I was just going to cut with a pair of scissors, but she thankfully took them and did a proper job with a sewing machine and all. God Bless Fina.
So now, it's 9pm, and after a long tiring day, none of the family members can believe how much work we got done. I'm so relieved we got the suitcases out of the way now instead of leaving them for the absolute last minute. Now it's relax time and we're waiting for Paula and Ignacio to come over for pizza and beer with our favorite Best of SNL with Eddie Murphy. We vowed to watch it all together before we left since we have this thing with Eddie Murphy in the 80's....Ah, the things I'll miss.
