Where I stayed

We were up and away early again on Wednesday morning and back on the road.  Within a few miles we crossed the border to Arizona and travelled through Phoenix and Tuscon (without stopping!) and finally arrived at Benson where we decided we would stay two nights.  We found out in Australia that it becomes very tiring if you try to travel everyday as you don't get to sleep in, Steven permitting, and you see nothing of the areas in which you are staying.
We chose to take the scenic road from Phoenix to Tuscon rather than the freeway.  Whilst it probably was more scenic than the freeway, the scenery was in fact mainly cacti, small shrubs and far away mountains - miles and miles of it!  Whilst travelling through this countryside, between listening to the Bob the Builder CD, we were listening to the local radio which was full of country music stations, Hispanic and Mexican stations and Christian stations.  It gave a real feel to the countryside we were travelling through, but all we really wanted was some good road trip music!
We booked into the motel to be told that there was a local police convention was on and most of the guests were police.  It certainly made you feel safe seeing about half a dozen police cars in the car park!  On the other hand - you felt you needed to behave yourself too!
