We arrived at the car hire company and started to go through the procedure for hiring the car which we had done on line a few days previously, when they decided that we had to have a printed voucher that we had previously e-mailed about as we obviously have no facility to print with the laptop. Fortunately the manager allowed us to access Yvonne's e-mails and print the voucher they required and we were given the go ahead to get the car. We were told to go and chose any of the mid-size SUV's from the row, where we arrived to see someone driving away the last one! Yvonne trekked back to the office to find out what to do. Just take one of the SUV's was the response! So we picked a Chevrolet Evolution and D was happy! It was a joy to drive around with all the luggage in the boot, not on the back seat, and loads of leg room!
The other joy of motoring in the States is of course the cost of petrol and they still sell it in gallons! We are paying just under $2 for a gallon - do the math as they say here!
We left Los Angeles as we had agreed we wanted to travel fairly rapidly through California, Arizona and New Mexico as D is more interested to see Texas and Yvonne had visited many places in those states when she visited 9 years ago. We just kept going on Route 10 until we arrived at Blythe, a town just on the Californian side of the border where we stayed for the night.
