Malaysia to Singapore by train.

We successfully caught our train and had a fairly comfortable trip down to Singapore, although D was a bit disgruntled, rightly so, when he went to the second class carriages and realised that our carriage was not as good as the second class carriages after we had paid extra for first class! Steven is becoming a better traveller now and travelling days seem a little easier.
We got a taxi to our hostel, which promised to be a good quality hostel, according to the hostelbookers website. There was a lot riding on this as D had threatened that he would not go to another hostel if it was as bad as the one in Cameron Highlands! Fortunately it pleased him a little, not a lot, but enough to say he will give other hostels a try!
Having made the decision to go by train, we got packed and tried to have an early night as we had to leave at 6.30am to get to the train station, although Yvonne was still up at 1.30am chatting with Jack on MSN messager. All of a sudden the fire alarm sounded at the Holiday Inn! Being well rehearsed from school, she immediately got D and Steven up, didn't collect belongings, and we went out on to the balcony where we were greeted by billowing smoke from our known escape route! Several other residents had also got up and we were wondering what to do. All we could remember was - don't use the lifts in the event of fire - so we had to quickly work out the fire escape routes. Anyway all the excitement amounted to nothing as one of the other residents had the intelligent idea of phoning reception who said they were just testing the fire alarm system using real smoke! At 1.30am - they're having a laugh! There we were - all wide awake and Jack wondering why his mother had just disappeared from messenger. Situation explained and Steven settled down, we all managed to get a few hours sleep before heading to the station.
