Moshi is the starting point for almost all treks up Kilimanjaro.  Mt. Kilimanjaro, in case you were not aware, is the tallest in Africa, and its top is flat.  It's a strange mountain, and early explorers were astonished to see snow so close to the equator.  We saw Kilimanjaro's snow-capped peak for...five minutes.

Our decision to go to Moshi was a sort of "why not" gesture.  If you're not going on safari or climbing Kilimanjaro there's not a great deal to do.  We were loafing, and we decided that while we were up north, we might at least see the tallest mountain in Africa, the iconic beast rising out of the grasses, Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Have I said "Kilimanjaro" enough?  Heehee.

It's incredibly cloudy at this time of year, so I'd recommend that climbers hold off for better weather.  For our adventures we walked all over looking at bus prices for Dar and took a lovely nap.  We stayed at the Buffalo Hotel, which was quite luxurious for our standards, and it had a continental buffet breakfast.  Yummy.  TV in the restaurant showed crazy shows, but we did catch up a bit with the news at lunch.

Before our lovely nap, Travis peeked out the window and said "Is that the mountain?"
I peeked out the window and said, "Yes, that little part of white does look a bit shinier than all the clouds."

At least the mountain was there.

After our lovely nap, Travis peeked out the window and said, "Look at this!"

The sun was setting and the mountain top had come out, and the glow was gorgeous.  The sparrows were cute, also, but they did not much for our photos.  Sorry.

All in all, our time in Moshi was excellent and satisfying.
