Way, way back, perhaps when we were in Nepal, we received an interesting email message.

The Gorman family, who had been faithfully following our travels from the very beginning, apparently found us somewhat interesting and/or entertaining, and they decided to help us out.  They graciously offered us a week in their timeshare resort, with the option of a couple locations in Malaysia and Israel.

Erin, who had been complaining about a vacation from our vacation for a while, immediately jumped on the idea.  So naturally that meant I had to figure out how to make it work.  And it wasn't easy.  But we set a date for us to get down to the edge of the Malaysian peninsula and confirmed for the 4th of May at Damai Beach Resort, Kuching, Borneo.

We flew from Johor Bahru, near Singapore, to Kuching, early May 4th.  Then we hitched a ride into town and got a shuttle to Damai Beach.  This is a private beach resort pretty far away from everything.  We checked in for a week of relaxation and luxury.

We had two huge adjoining rooms, with two televisions, two bathrooms, aircon, hot water, and a very comfy bed.  I'm pretty sure we've never had all of those luxuries in a hotel room until now.  The second room led out to a balcony overlooking the beautiful beach.  We had a choice of the ground floor pool or the beautiful Clifftop Terrace pool.  Even better, we could eat amazing salads in the restaurant.  Perhaps you would understand if you hadn't had a decent salad in seven months.

We mostly spent the week enjoying doing nothing.  There was a choice of lounging in bed, lounging by the beach, or lounging by the pool.  We did all three.  I occasionally roused myself to take some pictures of the amazing sunsets.

All too soon, our week came to an end.  We fly from Kuching to Indonesia for the last leg of our Southeast Asian odyssey.

A million thanks to the Gormans, who donated such a generous gift and gave us a vacation from our very tiring vacation.

~Travis
