OK.. so after my long haul in the internet cafe last night, I decided to wait and be fresh for this bit...

So we got back to Cusco after the Salkantay trek, and Tom was a little bit ill... I went out with a load of people we met on the trek, and he slept it off, but the next day he was much better :)

We swapped hostels that morning, because we had been paying 28 Soles each for a dorm room and we found a double room with a private bathroom for 40 and a load of our friends were staying there...

That day was Inti Raymi, the Inka festival of the winter solstice, which is a massive festival for Peruvian people, so Tom and I climbed the gigantic hill - seriously, you think Bristol is hilly, you ain't seen nothin! - and watched some of the ceremony... it was $90 to get a seat, so we watched from afar and then made our way back down... I don't have any photos of it, but I think Tom took a few...

At one point it was a bit scary cos the police had a barrier up to stop people just running down the hill, but about 200 of them decided to charge... there wasn't much the police could do so they just went, but as they started running Tom grabbed my hand and we ran in the opposite direction... at the time it sounded like a riot starting, but it was all good!!

After that we sat around the hostel all night with our new found friends and chatted... Then me and Tom got a bus to Puno first thing in the morning...  We didn't actually do anything there, except find a post office and eat, so I have no pictures and no information...!

We got up early again and headed for the bus station to go to Copacabana in Bolivia, and bumped into most of the people we met in Cusco... which worked out brilliantly, because once we got through the border and into Copacabana, we shopped around as a group for accommodation and got a gorgeous hotel room, brand new, but about 3 for two nights... not bad eh?!?

That evening we climbed to the top of the hill overlooking the bay with a bottle of red to watch the sunset - me, Tom, Neil and Kelly (British couple) and Cherie and Michael (Aussie couple).  It was really gorgeous, but bloody knackering again... flippin altitude!!  After that we went for a few beers to celebrate Michael's 100th, and Cherie's 80th countries - him and Cherie have been travelling all their lives and seen a few places!!

Yesterday we took a boat tour to Isla del Sol (Island of the Sun), which is out in Lake Titicaca, and did a little bit more trekking from one side of the island to another.  It was an absolutely gorgeous day and we saw the ruins of the Temple of the Sun and a lot of beautiful scenery...

Then Tom and I got back and sampled the local trout, which is a bit famous round here, and spent the rest of the evening on the internet!  This morning we're killing some time before we get onto another bus, this time to La Paz, the world's highest capital city... where we will visit San Pedro prison (scary!) and hopefully meet up with all those guys we've been hanging around with...

missed you on msn... sorry!!
Wow, you're certainly getting around!! Sounds great stuff. Good to hear that Tom's recovered and that you've met up with some other people; always good to have a change of company now and then!! They sound as if they've been around a bit too. Thanks for keeping us posted, it's really exciting to hear the news and keep track of what you're up to!
We did our gig last night, which went well and today, if I can muster the energy, I'm hoping to go to a singing workshop which is part of the festival... let someone else do the work for a change!! So I'll close now as I need to go and get something to eat and get ready.
Take care and have fun. Lots and lots of love!!
