The night I went fishing with Hader and Ibrahim was one of the most beautiful experienses of my life.
They waited for me at a shallow cave a few yards above the dark beach, where Ibrahim cooked us a lovely lamb tajine. When they went fishing I stayed in the cave and meditated for a while. Afterwards I laid on the beach and looked at the most amazing display of stars I've ever seen and for the first time in my life, saw a falling star. Ibrahim caught a fish. Hader was not as successul.
I gave Hader my head flashlight as a gift and he was very happy. I was generous with him the following days as well. However, as he begun asking me for more and more gifts I became less interested in his company so I stopped meeting with him.
Ibrahim, who is one of the gentlest most traquil people I've ever met, I saw several times more before leaving Ifni. Supporting his parents and sisters from fishing he brings home anywhere from nothing to 100 dirham a day. There is only enough for food and not much else. His teeth are almot all gone, and he is only 33. And with all of that he seems like the happiest guy alive. Always gently smiling, always loving, never ever requesting anything but always very grateful for any gift I have given him. He was a wonderful teacher to be with and I am very grateful for meeting him.
I had many many extraordinary experiences here, enough to fill a book. But instead of offering you to read about them, I invite you to come here and experience this place on your own.
In this place there is seemingly nothing. But here, nothing is everything.
