At about 23:30 I arrived in Sami, one of the small yet important ports on the island of Cephalonia. Before I could make it to the camping ground (not really knowing where I was heading) I was ushered to a comfortable room by a couple who approached me as I got off the ship.
This side of Cephalonia appeared to be relatively rural, tranquil and untouched by the tourist droves. The people around my rented room were busy digging or watering their small household farms and it took my "villa" owners until about 12:30 to get back to the apartment so that I could check out (after calling them twice). Yup, serenity was in the air. That morning I took off to Mythos beach with the bike and in the process, nearly torched myself in the blazing sun. When I got there, looking over at what was said (by some) to be one of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world, I could barely get myself to out of the kiosk shed. It was very hot. The locals said it was especially warm.
