That morning I thought I got up early ready to be at the Delphi Archaeological site as they opened the doors at 8:30. Only after about and hour and a half of touring and listening to hesitant explanations by a group of Canadian Classics students I joined did I become aware of this. Of course this discovery changed my plans completely. After the Yogi -the-Bear hatted, mustached, Canadian guy said something like "well it's about ten to eleven now, so we can still go down the Apollo's temple" I darted down the hill, jumped on my bike and just made it a few minutes late for my official check out time at the hotel. I then began my long journey up to the sky resort town, about 300 meters uphill and west of Delphi, in what I initially thought was going to be late morning, but what turned out to be mid day. And it was hot. Followed by a group of local biker kids at the end of the climb I made it up to the town.
As I reached the peak at mid-day heat I cried out to the great Gods of this ancient land: "Ho, ye gods - give me a break". And so, Hermes the God of travelers who was also looking out for the weak and the weary that day, heard my cry and provided me with a 20 Km decent, followed by a relative plateau until I reached my final destination. As the sun began to fall lower in the sky and became dimmer as it was covered by the evening haze, I reached the city of Thiva.
