Salerno to Potenza

What a ride! 130Km of hills, hills and more hills. The Apennines were magnificent, the road though left much to be desired - biking wise. It was one of those roads you just have to shout out: "didn't these planners have non motorized vehicles in mind!". The road begins by climbing uphill from the sea line and then continues with a series of descents and ascents that can try any rider's patience. The weather was nice and cool though; by 9:00PM, flashing my red lights I arrived completely exhausted to Potenza, where I stayed with Pino's sister and family. I dubbed that ride - "the most difficult ride I had ever done". By the time I reached Potenza I was pedaling on fumes...
As I was climbing one of the hills towards Olympia's house I stopped to ask some one for directions. After explaining to me that I would have to continue climbing up hill I slid into the gutter, going down, bike and everything.
The man hurried to help me up: "stanci ha?" he said in a worried tone. "Si molto" (yes, very). "De Dove vieni?" (where did you come from?). "Salerno" I said. He nodded heavily and gave me a little push up the hill. More thumbnails ...
