Mar. 3, 2007 Saturday,
35th floor, Aston Apartment
Jakarta, Java, Indonesia
Yesterday, we flew out of Yogyakarta and arrived at Jakarta Airport about 6:30 PM. The taxi to the Aston Apartments cost Rp170,000 and took about 90 minutes because of the traffic. When we get to the 35th floor we find Chris and Endang have invited some of their friends to party with us. Since we'd been up late the night before we were hoping for a quiet night and maybe a party this evening. But the plans had already been made. We took a power nap and somehow carried on with four couples and a single female until 4 AM. Chris and we were the only bulas (Europeans) in the group. Most of the time we didn't know what anyone was saying, but we're used to that by now. We had a great time, but are exhausted today
Mar. 4, 2007 Sunday
Seems like everyone was pretty well partied out from Friday night so the party last night ended early and we got to bed about 1 AM. This morning we figured out where we were going to stay in Jakarta after Chris and Endang return to Surabaya. The choices of hotels in our Lonely Planet and the telephone directory didn't look very good and now that we have checked into the Le Margot Hotel in the Jaksa area we find it's as bad as we feared. We're only paying Rp170,000 but would gladly pay twice that to be in a less seedy area and a place that doesn't remind us of a flop house on the Cass Corridor in Detroit.
