We leave with Ryan this morning by local bus to southern port of Ende. Our big bags go up on top. The trip takes 2-3 hours. We check into the Dwi Putra Hotel [08 50.565S 121 38.749E]. While Ryan goes off to arrange a private car for tomorrow's trip to Riung, we check out the city. It's a very nice city. Ende has an excellent public park and gardens with tennis courts and a pedestrian bridge that goes from the park and over the road to the beach. The park looks like it is well maintained, unlike those we've seen so far. The beach however has signs posted that warn not to enter the water because the municipal drain discharges in the area. Soekarno, a leader of the revolt against the colonial Dutch and first president of Indonesia lived here and his home has been made into a museum. We find it but it is closed when we get there. When Ryan finds us wandering around town we go to a restaurant down on the harbor for a nice seafood meal and enjoy the view of the Sabu Sea. The harbor is nestled around by volcanic mountains, with two large volcanoes, Gunung Meja and Gunung Iya, prominent features.
