Darwin is our staging spot for our invasion of East Timor. We'll rest here and get caught up on our e-mail and post cards. We've got our tickets for the flight to Dili which cost a bit over $700 for the two of us on line. They would have cost $100 more had we gotten them from a ticket agent. We originally checked in to the Palms Hotel which was recommended by the Rough Guide but was dirty and dingy. When we moved out the taxi driver told us it was the biggest brothel in Darwin. Irina wondered why the Asian girls there were smiling at Arvid and giving her dirty looks. Competition maybe. We then moved into the Frogs Hollow packpacker hostel which is $50/nite, $38/nite cheaper than the Palms. It is pretty funky with shared bath but a nice pool and better ambiance. We also had some very good seafood meals here in Darwin. It is the rainy season which means it is mostly hot and muggy. But we are enjoying ourselves and the town.
