Our driver has been on the phone with people in Hells Gate and informs us that the generator there is still broken and the roads are impassable so we have to head south to a safer route. We rode through Riverdale station to Camooweal [GPS 19 55.279S 138 07.169E] for a rest stop. We lunched at Avon Downs [20 01.484S 137 29.311E] which has nothing but a police station strangely standing in the middle of nowhere with nothing but termite mounds and scarce clumps of savannah grass on black soil plains. We continue on to the Barkly Roadhouse [GPS 19 42.654S 135 49.667E] for draught. And then a rest stop at a place called Three Way with the only reason for being is that three roads meet here. [GPS 19 26.192S 134 12.469E] We take the Stuart Highway north from here. The Stuart connects Alice Springs with Darwin. It was built in a matter of weeks during the war when Australia was afraid of invasion by a Japanese fleet off Darwin. Our tour guide at how his nation had built the road in such a short time. However, some more forthcoming Aussie had already told us it was built almost completely by the US Army Corp of Engineers. Which is taking nothing from the Aussies because the country is so sparsely populated it would have possibly taken the conscription of every man and woman in the nation to build the road as fast as it was. We end our day with a very good dinner at Renner Springs [GPS 18 19.121S 133 47.742E] with fairly modern ensuite (toilet in the room) accommodations.
