Dec. 15-18, 2006

Christine, the better half of our second host couple in Sydney picked us up at Rob's, which was more than we had hoped for.  That set the tone for the rest of our three night stay with Peter and Christine.  We wanted for nothing.  They went out of their way for us and were extremely gracious.  Peter and Chris have a beautiful modern 4 year old home in a quiet subdivision that was all farm land 5 years ago.  We had a nice view of the Blue Mountains from their place.  Google Earth coordinates:  33º43.836'S and 150º54.721E (remember to enter a space instead of the degree sign and a space between longitude and latitude)

Friday night they took us to a restaurant on Circular Quay to meet several of their friends.  Saturday they showed us the parts of Sydney that rob hadn't been able to, including the Olympic Village site 01Blue Mtns
01Blue Mtns
.  Saturday night another party at their beautiful house, with about 20 guests.

Sunday morning the four of us took off to the Blue Mtns.  They are called Blue because of the blue haze caused by the vapor from eucalyptus trees.  There are steep escarpments with shear drops of inestimable depths to the tropical forest below; inestimable to us because we weren't getting that close to the edge.  These mountains were so rugged that it took the Europeans 25 years before three explorers named Blaxland, Wentworth, and Lawson found a route over them.  Apparently everyone before had been looking for a pass through the mountains but there wasn't any.  These bright mates just followed the ridges.  We guessed they must have been from Tennessee.  On the way back down from the mountains we stopped at the Norman Lindsey Gallery Museum.  Lindsey, now deceased, is one of Australia's greatest artist.  A walk around the grounds is a must, female nude statutes behind every shrub and around every pool.

On Monday morning Dec. 18, our gracious hosts went to the limit with their generosity.  Christine drove us into the city to the Wicked  Campervan depot, where we picked up our camper van for the next stage of our journey.  Chris gave us some last minute advice on how to get out of the city then she was off for a teaching job interview in a small community of Tranee about 3 hours north of Sydney.  They have been building an Artist Retreat there and have been waiting until they could make the move to finish it up and open for business.  We learned later that Chris got the job which means they can now sell their house in the Sydney suburbs and move to Tarnee to follow their hearts' desire.  We are taking some credit for their success because we gave them a chance to gain karmic merit by taking in us strangers.

Merry Christmas, guys...
We have Alice and Bob here, and we are enjoying them. We made it through the Christmas festivities, nearly sane and intact!
I was wondering what beach you spent Christmas day lolling around on...I know it had to be a beach...am I right? The pictures are wonderful, and it sounds like you are being treated like royalty everywhere you have been.
Off I go to make some coffee...some of yours, perhaps.. Timor, or, something or other, Moon... We will think of you as we drink it.
Love to you, and Happy New Year!
