Actually, this is my first trip in Hong Kong back in Aug. 31, 2007 and it's sort of a field trip to investigate the life of the old fishers, living on one of the islands in HK.
The island's name is Chang Zhou in Chinese. There was once a lively town with thriving fish industry there; however, now there are only some women and elderly people living on it. The reason is quite simple. Firstly, The sea in the surrounding area is no longer suitable for the fish because of the pollution. Secondly, being a fisher is not regarded as a decent career for the educated people so most of the young people left there to find jobs in the city. Therefore the people on the island are living in isolation, especially the old.
However, I like this place a lot. It's a great place to go when you get tired of the city life. Everything slows down in this small town. While the scenery isn't breathtaking, it's still looks beautiful in its own way. And of course, the air is purer. What's more, the people living there seem nice and friendly and they are still following some ancient customs.
The town isn't a tourist attraction yet and I really hope that it would remain that way.
I'd like to go back there again if I had a chance.
