On the first day of our trip to Bordeaux, we took it easy. After having picked up Nicola and his cousin, we left for the world famous Dune du Pyla. You can read all about the story in the previous entry. This entry is dedicated to the Paragliders we met at Dune du Pyle.

Dune du Pyla Paragliders - Riding through Sand and Sun

Who would not want to ride and glide through the air like they do? Free as birds. Silent as the wind: Paragliders. I was really fascinated by how the pilots fought with the gusts of wind. Sometimes they had to defeat the wind, for instance when they want to get their canopy down. Other times they took advantage of it, i.e. when they were sailing through the air or soaring some ridges.

Watching them come down felt like seeing the leaves drop from the trees in autumn. As I'm writing this entry (08th of September 2006), autumn has arrived at Paris. I would like to sail away with my paraglider through yellow hot sands and cristal clear blue skies.

Please go ahead and enjoy those pictures. They are a selection from more than 50 photos I took, fortunately all of this is digital. So no paper and chemicals were wasted in the process.

How does Paragliding work?

It's all about physics (of course). The Wikipeople created a really good article about paragliding, describing all the details of how to do it and the technology involved. If you are interested, check it out at
