Travel Information

places to stay in Venice:

Hotel Rossi

story continued

I open my eyelids. The air smells fresh, filled with salty sea. No noise. Can you hear the birds fly, can you see the birds sing? Water is stroking the walls of the ancient bulding. The carpets of the room are not so familiar. They look antique, just as the furniture. An old wardrobe, made out of dark red wood. The bedside table next to our bed, constructed with the same material. Breathing the air of the old stones, I feel I am in Italy. Only here the air has a smell full of such history, full of such antiquity, fused with the vibrating waves of mobile telecommunication and colourful live. Baidi is asleep in my arms. I don't want to wake her up. The traveling has been so rough. We need a break. I continue listening to the seagulls. What are they talking about? When you were a child did you ask yourself what the seagulls are talking about? Soon she wakes up. "Where are we?" - "In Venice."

After the shower the day starts with an Italian breakfeast. The bread is not so delicous, neither is the coffee. We don't complain, remembering how little we paid. We try to stuff our stomachs as full as possible. Afterwards we leave our backpacks with the hotel guard. He is a friendly Italian man, shorter than me, having an Italian stomach, an Italian beard, a beard mixed of grey and black hair. Dark Italian skin and the friendliest Italian eyes.

We leave through the hotel door, entering the time-worn streets and channels of Venice, that once upon a time was the center of power in the Christian world.

It looks different at day. Many people are busily walking up and down the street. There are no motorcycles, no bicylces, no cars. The only mechanized means of transportation are boats. We would like to take a boat to the harbour, it's too expensive, so we walk. By accident we find the tourist information. We ask about a cheaper place to stay. In fact we are looking for the cheapest place to stay. Moreover we find out about ferry tickets to Greece. The friendly attendant assists us.

We go to the tourist info. Actually wanted to find a supermarket. But now we are at the tourist info. It's close to the big bridges that crosses to the main land. We ask about tickets. Boat tickets. We continue to the harbour. Getting the info about the boat tickets. Everything is cool. We come back.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ////////////////////////////

Go shopping

Hop on a boat to some island (forgot the name, have to look it up)::murano:)

Glas manufacturers everywhere

Have a picknick on the boat. Have a picknick at the "bus" station. Doves/pidgeons are trying to steal our food. Pick pick pick.

Walking around the island. Glass everywhere. All right. We eat some more. Then we go back to the hotel. Get our backpacks. Crossing to the other hotel. City full of life. Christmas is coming. People everywhere. Light everywhere. Many tourist. We are quick. We have to be quick. They have opening hours. We only have 20 more minutes. Almost run. She is so fast. She's smaller. She can sneak through all the small gaps left by people. Admire her once more.

(find a map of venice and describe the way we took on this map.)

we find the hostel.

It's a church. Holy place. Very beautiful. The beds are army beds. Two guys sleeping in my room. Don't get to know them. Maybe american. We lock our stuffs. Take a shower.
In her room there is two girls as well. Don't know what we do next. Ah... . we check out downtown. Visit st. markus. Beautiful. So beautiful. (describe in detail)

On our way: mascerade shop. Mascs. Masc ball.

Baidi looks funny with the masks.

Continue to st markus. So so beautiful. Tower is under reconstruction. Return home. Carry that little slacker on my back. Heavy. We find a restaurant. Eat something. Waiter's chinese. They talk some. She's so excited about the chinese in other countries.

Lasagne is not so good. Not so much. Not so much. Still hungry. But what can I do. No money. Need to save our cash. This is already too expensive.

Continue home. Hostel looks very nice at night. Very silent. No cars. No air pollution. Only people. People are not loud either. It's cold outside. Everybody is inside. Should get some sunglasses.

Wake up.

Breakfeast. (a joke)

Pack our stuffs. Leave it there. Go to st markus.

Return to the hostel. Get our belongings. Go to the ferry. Miscalculated the time. Boats are too slow. Taxi too expensive. We decide to run. We run. We run. We run from the right of venice to the left of venice. We cross the entire city in 30 minutes. We are out of breathe. Arrive at the ferry on time. Get on the boat.

People don't open my passport. Baidi is checked all the time.
