We stopped off to have a look at the boulders which were a nice sight (and where Dave found a crab's arm), then went down a very long gravel road to a lighthouse where we parked the car. There was a dirt path down which we walked to a hide, and watched the seals sunning themselves in a cove. Then we went on a walk around a perimeter fence to look for some penguins. Luckily we found one! He/she was just standing out side of its house, looking at the view. We watched it for a while... but it just stood there, completely still, looking at the view. It was quite funny.
After unsuccessfully looking for some more penguins we decided to walk out to the peninsular, where we found more seals sunning themselves, and two baby seals who seemed very interested in us. Unfortunately we also found a dead blue penguin down a rabbit hole. That was very sad indeed. Very, very sad.
We headed back to the car, half happy at the wildlife that we'd seen, and half sad about the poor dead penguin, and continued our drive to the university city of Dunedin.
