Farah and I were invited for an outing to the "Camp" at Ras Laffan City. This is where all the folks who work on the "project" live. It seems our friends from the Netherlands know the company band that will entertain these folks for a Thursday night (this is same as our Friday night back home).
After work, we get picked up to meet the bus that will take the band, I feel like a groupie, but it is a welcomed excitement. The band it seems plays all sorts of music so I am happy. Everyone arrives and we pack up the bus. Band gets on and we set our sites for the camp (of course not before our safety briefing)
Anticipation finally ends as we enter the City. We can see all the lights and how big this place really is. Wow! is all I can manage to say. We arrive at the Camp and find our way to the place where the band will play. We all grab equipment and head for the building. When we enter and put down the equipment I have in had, and look up, it was at this moment I felt I had entered the movie "Where the boys are" as all I could see were men! Hmmmm.......... as it turns out, the ratio of men and women at the project are more men, less women.
The band sets up and music begins to play, they are good, I am impressed. Folks start dancing, conversations get flowing and the excitement begins. We are so thrilled to meet so many people, we have conversations of wife's, girlfriends, see pictures of children and talk of the project. Oh, and let's not forget the technical theory questions as most of these folks are technical professionals and they love to challenge.(my head still hurts from these) They are glad to have different folks to talk to as apparently it is a rarity. Of course I was challenged by the whole American thing, soccer vs football, boot vs trunk, lift vs elevator, so on and so forth! (frown). Trust me I won!
Lots of dancing, laughing and music, what wonderful folks, what a wonderful time! Good for the ego, good for the soul!
I will never forget the welcome,
