The first stop was The Inn at Spanish Bay, a beautiful golf/lodging complex along the 17 Mile Ride. We browsed through the shops, admired the ocean views and enjoyed the outdoor patio. Next stop, the famous Pebble Beach Lodge where we walked around before riding through the area, admiring all the gorgeous homes and looking for the start of the 17 Mile Ride. We did get turned around a bit, but what do you expect with 6 women giving Mary Jane directions? We found the beginning of the ride, right alongside the Pebble Beach Lodge and followed the road, making a few stops along the way for photo ops
After admiring the Pebble Beach area, we headed to Lobos State Natural Reserve, enjoying the "munchies" we took in the car with us. Since this will be our last night :( we are going to go out for dinner, so lunch was skipped today. Of course Bobbie had to supplement her intake along the way - where does all that food go? The weather was getting a bit overcast and chilly, so the ride through the reserve was quick, then it was on to Carmel Valley.
Nancy's request was to stop at Grigg's Nursery and others wanted to purchase nuts from Jeffrey's - both in Carmel Valley. We came across the nursery first and dropped Nancy off, while we did a quick run to the town. Bobbie had purchased some delicious roasted pecans at the Monterey Market and some of the others wanted to buy more of these - so we headed out to find Jeffrey's in Carmel Valley. We did find the store at 3:05, but it closed at 3:00. Heidi was determined to purchase some of these pecans, so she knocked on the door and, using her "Southern Charm", she sweet talked the owners into opening for us and I think we made it well worth their while
Mission Ranch Resort sits on 22 acres with spectacular views of Point Lobos and the Pacific Ocean. It is owned by Clint Eastwood - I guess he didn't realize we would be there or I'm sure he would have welcomed us. We sat on the outside patio, nice and cozy under the gas heaters, and enjoyed an outstanding dinner. Mary Jane had surprised us with a red velvet cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes and we brought it to the restaurant for dessert. The waitress brought it out with candles for our "60" celebration and after singing Happy Birthday to ourselves, everyone in the restaurant applauded. After a week of Mary Jane driving us around, she was allowed to partake in some cocktails and Jonelle got us home safe and sound for the unwelcome chore of packing.
