We left about 10 a.m. and headed north to San Juan Bautista Mission, making a brief stop in Castroville, the Artichoke capital of the world.  The Mission was amazing. It has the largest Church of the 21 California missions.  The grounds were beautiful and we enjoyed strolling through the complex - even met a lady from Thibodeaux! Before we left the church, we lit a candle for Chere', Heidi's sister who will be having some serious surgery tomorrow morning.  Our prayers are with you Chere', but better than that, we are sending "YaYa  husband", Dr. Jeff Budden, to monitor the surgery and sit with Chere's husband Al.  We had a wonderful lunch at Jardines de San Juan - freshly made Mexican food with regional flavor. The gardens of the restaurant were beautiful, as was the weather.  Some of the girls had wonderful Mango Margaritas as we enjoyed the ambiance of the patio.  After lunch, we strolled the town, mostly window shopping, as most of the shops were only open Thursday through Sunday.  Before leaving San Juan Bautista, we returned to the mission where Rita and MJ bought beautiful St. Francis of Assisi statues.

Then it was on to Capitola Village for some more serious shopping.  The first stop was Gayle's Bakery & Rosticceria, a knock-your-socks-off fantastic place with beautiful pastries.  Mary Jane and Jonelle each bought 2 Provencal tablecloths. We did some other shopping in the area, then went down to the harbor for a view of the ocean and of course, more shopping.

Next stop - Santa Cruz.  Our driver, Mary Jane, took us to the boardwalk for a ride on the roller coaster, but she had no takers so we decided to park the car and explore the town a little - aka - find a bathroom. We were ready to head back to our home away from home in Carmel.. The Highway Angels were with us as we were speeding along the highway and saw a police officer with radar, but he didn't stop us, thank goodness.  We stopped to pick up a rotisserie chicken at Whole Foods in Monterey, but they were out, so we continued on to Carmel, and picked one up at Safeway.   Then it was on to the house for a wonderful salad with chicken and our other fresh produce prepared by Nancy and Jonelle.   We were all in agreement that the strawberries white nectarines were "to die for!!!"

We are going to turn in early tonight for an early start to Hearst Castle tomorrow morning. How the week is flying by!
