After a hearty breakfast of bacon and eggs we loaded up Ms. Goldy about 10 a.m. and headed to Monterey. It promised to be a beautiful day, with the sun shining brightly as we headed out. The owner of our house had generously left us 10 passes to the Monterey Aquarium so that was to be our first stop. We must have looked suspicious because when I handed the attendant our passes, she pointed out to us that it was not our name on them and we were not allowed to use the passes. Some landlord we have!  Thank goodness Nancy has been doing some consultant work with the Museum in St. Louis and she has been to the Monterey Aquarium many times selling passes.  With her connections, they agreed to give us the maximum number of complimentary passes allowed - 6. Since Nancy has been to the aquarium many times, she did not come in with us, but opted to wander around the city while we enjoyed the sites.

The aquarium is outstanding; it overlooks the ocean and as we walked around we were able to enjoy the beautiful views of the outdoors.  Our favorite exhibits were the jellyfish and the octopus.   Then, it was off to the gift shop.  It was fun to look, but no major purchases were made.  We left the aquarium, hoping we could remember which lot the car was parked in, but managed to meet up with Nancy and headed out to do some shopping in Pacific Grove - a short 3 mile ride down the coast.

We had lunch at a quaint little cafe in Pacific Grove - The Red House.  Some of us had sand dab, a very light white fish which is local to the area. When we finished our delicious lunch and started to venture down the street to do some shopping, the sunshine was gone and it was very cool, some would say cold. We strolled up and down the main street in Pacific Grove, but found there were a lot of consignment shops and not the best shopping.  There were some lovely antique shops, but unfortunately we can't pack furniture in our suitcases!

We left Pacific Grove and went back to Monterey to take advantage of the weekly market.  There were many local vendors selling everything from scarves to local produce.  We purchased some fresh fruit, tomatoes and nuts. Our next venture was the famous 17 mile drive through Pebble Beach, but alas, it was not meant to be - the fog came rolling in and we decided we would not be able to get the full effect with the fog, so we headed back to Carmel.  We stopped by Mission Ranch (owned by Clint Eastwood) for a drink and the view, however the view was also obstructed by the fog, so Ms. Goldy headed back to our house for some snacks, drinks and plenty of laughter and reminiscing about the good old days.
