Austria is a special place for us Californians because without them, we wouldn't have our governor.  You won't believe how many people have asked me about our governator since I've been in Europe.  I guess that's what California is now famous for, taking over palm trees and beaches.  But generally, it's a good response unlike our two-time elected president.
Austria is quite like Germany.  People speak German, food is almost identical and transportation system is basically the same, using U-Bahn and S-Bahn.  You can find Kebab place every other corner just like Germany.  But Vienna does have its classical music roots unlike its neighbor.  If Nashville is the capital of country music, Vienna is the place to be for all classical music fans.  You can find concerts playing almost daily and it's known to be the best in the world.  Since I'm not into that scene just yet, I can't confirm the claim, but it seems accurate just by touring the city.
I spent three nights here but two of the three days were mostly spent inside the hostel due to heavy rain.  I've been getting lucky with the weather since I've been in Europe but I knew my luck was running out.  Regardless, I was glad to finally get some much needed rest, using the rain as an excuse to just lounge around and unwind.  It wasn't too bad since the hostel actually had a decent bar downstairs to socialize with other travelers.  Here, I met Ed (Oz) and Santiago (Argentina) where we all decided to head off to Budapest next.
