2nd May 2008: Exploring Magical Skye
Along the Trotternish Peninsula
Upon Freddie's expert suggestion, we set off in our Focus on the B884 towards Dunvegan. There is a famous castle here but we didn't go as we prefer exploring the outdoors.
We continued on the A850 towards Borve, and to join the main A87 northbound to Uig, driving along the coast of the beautiful Trotternish Peninsula. We passed through so many villages and sights that were so amazingly beautiful that only our pictures can do justice in describing them. So, here they are :

It was very, very windy on the day we were there. We scrapped the idea of taking the demanding 4-mile walk up the Quiraing as the wind made it really chilly and we were not properly dressed to stand the cold. The wind was just so strong that we couldn't possible set up Tanaka and Nero to capture us against this grand formation...so, we only have photos of these :-
The Old Man of Storr:
After spending some time at Majestic Quiraing, we turned back on the same minor road to Staffin and proceeded south towards The Storr. Not being able to walk up the Quiraing, we were determined this time to climb up the Old Man of Storr.
We found the car park mentioned in our guidebook and started the 3 ½ mile walk. We really enjoyed the track, which started through a forest. This first part of the track was easy,

Taking a break...
Its rock formations were so majestic and grand and we felt really small again, just like the time when we passed through Kintail at the Highlands.

We drove past a cemetery and after a few more turns, arrived at a car park at the foot of the Quiraing. It was very, very windy on the day we were there.
This first part of the track was easy,
First part of the track - pretty easy
the smell of the woods and the sound of running waters through a stream added a really serene and tranquil feeling to the whole atmosphere. It reminded me of a walk I took through a forest in Zurich many years ago - it has the same "forest" smell.
My Argi looking so dashing
The track gradually went uphill
If they can do it, so can we !!
and we finally reached an open grassland which brought us closer to the view of the rocky pinnacles above. We walked past a gate and began a very steep climb all the way up to the Old Man.
The steep climb up
Of course Argi would have loved to run all the way up but he was kind and gentleman enough to take the slower route by walking up with me. I think I did quite well - I only stopped twice to rest :-)) !!
