Before I begin this blog let me first apologize to the People of the Ground who I inadvertently referred to as the "children of the ground" in a previous blog.  The group, led by King of the Potgs Scott Day, have revolted today and expressed their dislike for my previous term.  From now on they are the Ptogs ! (I believe that Byron is arranging to have a patch made)

We were joined this morning in Nelson by Margot Janz, Garry's daughter.  So nice to have her along with us.  And yes, she looks a lot like her dad.

Also before I get into the day's events, let's reflect on the hotel last night and specifically the room where Saint Jim laid down to sleep.   As described by Jim to us this morning, his room, unlike the rest of us who had a lovely balcony overlooking mountains and water, was situated in the basement.  It had a small cell-like window, no airconditioning.  It also had one outlet so Jim had to decide whether to plug in the alarm clock or the light or the tv.  The housekeeping trolleys were lined up all down the hall outside his room.  So at dinner tonight Jim was telling the story of his room to the table which included sisters Tana and Lindsay Smith, daughters of Byron.  Jim left the table to attend to some private matters and Tana and Lindsay started whispering to each other and then laughing.  They told us why and when Jim returned we asked them to confess to him.  Turns out when they arrived at the hotel there was a mixup in that there are two guys on the tour who want a two-bed room and there were none available. So Tana and Lindsay, trying to be helpful, offered up names of people who need "single" rooms and Saint Jim's name came up first... so now at dinner Tana and Lindsay are giggling at the fact that probably Saint Jim ended up in the basement because of their suggestion to the front desk.  Thankfully tonight Saint Jim has an outlet for every plug in the room AND air conditioning.  His wife Sheila joins us Saturday night so let's hope there is no repeat of last night.,

Rode from Nelson to Midway where we met members of the Okanagan Chapter for lunch.  Then rode on to Kelowna. What a ride.

We noticed today that the scenery is completely diffferent in that the hills are covered in some kind of wheat coloured grass which in contrast to the green trees looks stunning

We checked into the Ramada Kelowna and were given a very warm welcome.  A volunteer appreciation night was held for the Okanagan Chapter and the National Tour people also attended.  We heard from the chapter co-chair, Gerry Parrot, as well as Garry Janz.  We were also very touched by a speech given by a gentleman currently battling cancer, which started out 17 months ago as prostate cancer, and has spread to his brain. He did "get checked" when he was having difficulties and pain.. his message was don't wait til you have symptoms.. get checked regularly.

The whole purpose of this tour is to spread the awareness.. to get it checked.  If you are reading this blog, spread the message to all the guys you know.

Tomorrow we head to Kamloops.  Ride on, spread the word.
