We took a night train from Praha to Dresden then to Frankfurt. In Frankfurt @ 06:00 we switched over to another zug for the ride to Paris. I enjoyed my time in the Czech Republic but was anxious to go to France for personal reasons.I'm a Cajun boy from Louisiana so I have always felt part of me belonged in France. My Father and other relatives / friends speak French so I was curious to see if all those years of listening to them speak would help me with the locals.
We arrived at Paris Gare du Nord and to my amazement I felt a touch of culture shock! I've lived in Asia for a couple years and have been many places that would warrant culture shock but in Paris?? I still can't figure it out to this day. Anyway, we took a cab to our Hotel near Ecole Militaire and just a couple blocks from the Eiffel Tower. That was day one.
I'll fast forward to day 2. Took in all the tourist sites via the double decker bus tour, which I did enjoy. On the 3rd day we caught a early morning train to Caen France to visit Caen and the WWII D-Day landing beaches. I went to the D-Day museum in Caen, which was very nice and a must to see. From there we went to all the D-day beaches and finally to the American Military Cemetery. The beaches had a cold silence to them. It was as if you could not hear the waves which forced me think about what had happened here. The American Military Cemetery had special meaning to me as I am veteran. I have to say it was really nice to see that our country will take care of our heroes the way that was presented there. The grounds were perfect. It was very sobering to see 9k + graves. It really overwhelmed me.
We caught an evening train back to Paris just in time to party!!! We asked some femmes on the street where the best Discotheque in Paris was and they replied "Club Mix" !! Since I love techno and was willing to throw down Club Mix it was. We had a great time. The place was packed full and the music was awesome! Has anyone ever been there? If you know of any other good Techno Clubs in Paris let me know as I plan to return. Well I'm sad to say the next day was spent packing and catching a train to the airport for a flight back to New Orleans.... :<( This was my first time writing about my exploits so any feedback you can give me would be appreciated.
My next trip should come late 2007 or early 2008. I'm thinking about starting in Budapest and would like to visit 2 other countries. Any suggestions? Cheers, XtoGo More thumbnails ...
