It’s Easter Sunday, and to celebrate, Julia’s pops took us up into the countryside in British style... a sports car and “freaky music”, which translates to rock... guitar... guitar rock? We zipped through a few small towns and many a round-a-bout before reaching our first destination... the beautifully manicured, yet natural looking wooded area called Heaven’s Gate that opens up to a spectacular view of Longleat. The English know how to grow their flowers! Although it’s not yet fully spring, what I have seen so far is beautiful. After bracing ourselves against the winds so we could take in the spectacular views, we headed towards Iford Manor, which is a quaint estate open to the public. Chris showed us his hidden and free VIP entrance to the gardens around the back and we emerged into the middle of an English inspired secret garden. Check out the pictures... England is gorgeous. Speaking of good things and England - I have noticed that they have the happiest looking pigs, horses, sheep and cows in England. I’ve never seen such fat pigs... they were adorable. Bath and the surrounding area also seems to have an affinity for dogs, which suits me just fine. I met a very curious yorkie name Billy while at Heaven’s Gate, and he quickly won my heart with his curious ways. After our afternoon of countryside driving, we stopped off at a pub for a beer, or cider in my case, before heading back to the Royal Crescent for a delightful and traditional English Easter meal prepared by Julia's wonderful German mamma, Regina - roast lamb with mint sauce and roasted potatoes (and peas, of course). Hats off to the chef...
Happy Easter!
