Back in Athens, our brief period of island hopping has come to an end. It was nice finally having the opportunity to relax and enjoy the sun and sand, without spending all day wearing the soles of our feet down. Four out of five days were fine weather, so that's a pretty good average if you ask me. Overall, I still like Santorini best out of the Cyclades I've visited, but it was enjoyable spending some time getting to know Mykonos. I'm certainly glad we did it before the packed days of high summer season though!
We got back in to Athens yesterday evening, which left us with little else to do then get a bite to eat and take it easy after checking in to our hotel. Looking around the city had to wait until morning. Thus, with only today available to take it all in, Mayu and I have now just finished an exhausting tour around Athens' principal sights. We had to forego the museums and basically focus on the primary archaeological highlight: the Acropolis, the Theater of Dionysus, the Ancient and Roman agoras, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. All that, plus a bit of souvenir shopping (for Mayu) and winding around the backstreets of Plaka made for a busy day.
Mayu reconfirmed her Asiana flight out of Frankfurt this morning, so she's all secure for tomorrow's departure
So tomorrow morning the trip becomes a solo show. Mayu's flight out from Athens is at 11:15, so I'm accomapnying her to the airport and then returning for my bags and train to Patras. It's going to be sad saying goodbye, but we've had a fantastic time backpacking around. We've covered some serious ground now that I look at the map pins from the trip thus far. As long as my money lasts, I should be hopping a plane out of China for Nagoya once again. Tearful farewells will be replaced by happy reunions in due time.

. I managed to put in reservations for a ferry back out and then a hostel bed in Naples for the 31st, so I'm taken care of as well. I also finally found a copy of the new Lonely Planet China guidebook, though unfortunately the new Romania & Moldova guide remains elusive. Hopefully I'll be able to track one down somewhere in Italy or the former Yugoslavia. So tomorrow morning the trip becomes a solo show.
