I am already starting to sink in here, or sync in should I say? Today I had a much better day at school than yesterday. I am starting to be able to pick out words here and there whereas yesterday it all sounded like jibberish. So for that I am thankful. Today is so beautiful here and not too humid. It is starting to get windy, though, which means the afternoon storm is rolling in so I will make this one quick so I make it home before the rain!
Yesterday it took me about 3 minutes to successfully breech the compound (home) but today I did it in about a minute and a half-my best time by far- and then another minute to unlock the kitchen door, then the gate outside of my room then my door. #9 key to outside gate once counterclockwise open, close, lock, then ilco key clockwise 3 times on middle gate- open, close, lock, then alba key on front door counterclockwise 2 times then I'm in to face the kitchen door and gate and my door, which is only locked with 2 sliding locks! My host mother gave me a key to my bedroom so in case there is a fire I can get out. Muchos gracias, Marianita.
Joy sent me an email so I am glad to hear she made it ok. She and I are going to meet up this weekend and go to Puerta Viejo on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. Her school coordinator sounds awesome and found us a dynamite deal on a hotel. I will probably have to brave the bus system right after school to make it to Heredia by the time the bus leaves on Friday, so that should be another adventure. Tomorrow and Friday in school I will ask my afternoon teacher to review survival phrases and other helpful things to assist me in my weekend travels. I have 3 people in my first class, which is 4.5 hours long. Then we break for lunch and in the afternoon I get my own teacher for 1.5 hours, which has been a godsend. She keeps saying rapido estudiante!!! Which means I am learning quickly, I think.. Much different than the first class, where the other 2 students are more advanced than me. I will catch up quickly, I hope.
No crazy stories except that it is good to know that Mama means 2 things- mama with the emphasis on the second ma means mom. Mama with the emphasis on the first ma means boobs, which explains a lot about the initial gathering with my host father and his friends, who invited me to share a whiskey y agua and stories of my home.... My mama this, my mama that.....
Anyway, life is good! Pura vida, as the Costa Ricans say.
Thank you all for you messages, it has been sooo nice to hear from you all and I think that has helped me so much. I have mucho verbos to memorize tonight so I am going to sign off for now- oobie doobie.....
